Your privacy is critically important to us. At MaGNaM, we have a few fundamental principles:

• We are thoughtful about the personal information we ask you to provide and the personal information that we collect about you through the operation of our services.
• We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it.
• We aim to make it as simple as possible for you to control what information is shared publicly (or kept private), indexed by search engines, and permanently deleted.
• We help protect you from overreaching government demands for your personal information.
• We aim for full transparency on how we gather, use, and share your personal information.

Below is our Privacy Policy, which incorporates and clarifies these principles.

Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

MaGNaM is a digital publishing and creator platform operated by Meric Demirors. The controller responsible for personal information processed through MaGNaM is Meric Demirors. You can contact us at [email protected].

This Privacy Policy applies to information that we collect about you when you use:

• Our website, including studiomagnam.com;
• Our MaGNaM products, services, and features that are available on or through our website; and
• MaGNaM account, publishing, profile, portfolio, competition, and other features that you use through our Services.

Throughout this Privacy Policy we'll refer to our website and other MaGNaM products, services, and features collectively as "Services."

Below we explain how we collect, use, and share information about you, along with the choices that you have with respect to that information.

Information We Collect

We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so — for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, to maintain account security, or to make our Services better.

We collect this information from three sources: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources. Let's go over the information that we collect.

Information You Provide to Us

It's probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us directly. Here are some examples:

• Basic account information: We ask for basic information from you in order to set up your account. For example, we require individuals who sign up for a MaGNaM account to provide an email address.
• Public profile information: If you have an account with us, we collect the information that you provide for your public profile. For example, if you have a MaGNaM account, your username is part of that public profile, along with any other information you put into your public profile, like a photo. Your public profile information is just that — public — so please keep that in mind when deciding what information you would like to include.
• Payment and contact information: Currently there is no payment related data we collect. The payment-like aspect of MaGNaM is a profile's wallet, which is just a number that lives in the app and (at this time) has no other connection to an external payment service.
• Content information: You might provide us with information about you in draft and published content, including portfolio information, manga, competition submissions, comments, or other text, images, documents, and files that you upload or publish through the Services.
• Communications with us: You may also provide us with information when you communicate with us about a support question, complaint, report, or other request.

Information We Collect Automatically

We also collect some information automatically:

• Log information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers and servers typically make available, including the browser type, IP address, referring site, the date and time of access, and operating system. We collect log information when you use our Services — for example, when you create or make changes to your MaGNaM profile.
• Transactional information: Currently there is no payment related data we collect.
• Usage information: We collect information about your usage of our Services, such as actions needed to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Services.
• Information from cookies and sessions: A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor's computer, and that the visitor's browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for account authentication, sessions, security, and access preferences for our Services.

Information We Collect from Other Sources

We may also get information about you from other sources. For example:

• Google Sign-In: If you create or log in to your MaGNaM account through Google, we may receive Google account information made available through the authentication flow, including your email address and whether that email address has been verified by Google. We use this information to authenticate you, create or connect your MaGNaM account, and maintain your account.

Google Sign-In in more detail

When you register or log in using Google, we only request the absolute minimum information needed to create and manage your account: your email address and whether Google has verified it. We do not access your contacts, real name, or profile picture (our system automatically generates a default name and avatar for you).

We use this information strictly to allow you to log in, secure your account, and send necessary account notifications. Your email address and account data are stored securely on our private database (hosted on a Hetzner server) and are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties.

You remain in complete control of your data. Unverified accounts are automatically cleared from our system after a set period, and you can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time through your profile settings.

Account Security & Authentication: When you register using a standard email, you choose your own password and must verify your account via a secure link sent to your inbox. If you register via Google, we automatically generate a secure password for you and instantly verify your account (if Google has already verified your email). To protect you from imitation attacks, if someone creates an unverified account using your email address and you later log in with Google, we will automatically secure the account by resetting the password and notifying you. If you ever change your email address in your profile settings, your account will reset to an unverified state to confirm you own the new address, but we will not change your password so you don't get locked out. For your own safety, we strongly recommend using a private, unmonitored email address, keeping your passwords secret, and verifying your account promptly to prevent it from being automatically deleted.

The information we receive depends on the authentication services you use and what information is made available through the relevant authentication flow.

How and Why We Use Information

Purposes for Using Information

We use information about you for the purposes listed below:

• To provide our Services. For example, to set up and maintain your account, provide account verification, publish and display your content, provide customer support, and provide the features of MaGNaM that you use.
• To ensure quality, maintain safety, and improve our Services. For example, by monitoring and analyzing how users interact with MaGNaM so we can create new features, improve existing features, and make the Services easier to use.
• To protect our Services, our users, and the public. For example, by detecting security incidents; detecting and protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity; fighting spam; complying with our legal obligations; and protecting the rights and property of MaGNaM and others, which may result in us, for example, restricting or terminating Services.
• To fix problems with our Services. For example, by monitoring, debugging, repairing, and preventing issues.
• To communicate with you. For example, by emailing you for account verification, security-related notices, legal notices, support responses, or other service-related communications.

We do not currently operate an advertising program through MaGNaM and do not use your information to serve targeted advertising through an advertising network.

Legal Bases for Collecting and Using Information

A note here for those in the European Union about our legal grounds for processing information about you under EU data protection laws, which is that our use of your information is based on the grounds that:

(1) The use is necessary in order to fulfill our commitments to you under the applicable Terms of Service or other agreements with you or is necessary to administer your account — for example, in order to enable access to our website, authenticate your account, provide the Services, or publish content you choose to publish; or

(2) The use is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation; or

(3) The use is necessary to protect your vital interests or those of another person in circumstances where this basis is applicable; or

(4) We have a legitimate interest in using your information — for example, to safeguard our Services; prevent abuse and fraud; maintain security; communicate with you about the Services; monitor, prevent, and fix problems with our Services; and understand and improve how the Services are used, provided that those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests; or

(5) You have given us your consent — for example, where consent is required before we use certain optional cookies or other processing for which consent is the appropriate legal basis.

Sharing Information

Third-Party Services and Service Providers

MaGNaM relies on several third-party service providers to operate, secure, and provide the service. These providers may process personal data on our behalf or as part of providing their services to MaGNaM. We only use these services for purposes related to operating, securing, and providing MaGNaM. Your use of MaGNaM may therefore involve services provided by third parties. The processing of personal data in connection with these services is described in our Privacy Policy.

Cloudflare

We use Cloudflare for domain and network infrastructure, including DNS, proxying, security, and delivery of the MaGNaM website. Cloudflare may therefore process information associated with requests to MaGNaM, such as IP addresses, request information, and security-related information.

We also use Cloudflare R2 to store user-uploaded media and other files used by MaGNaM. Files uploaded to MaGNaN may therefore be stored using Cloudflare R2 as part of providing the service.

Hetzner

We use Hetzner to host the servers on which MaGNaM operates. Our Hetzner infrastructure hosts the MaGNaM application, including the Django backend, web server, and PostgreSQL database containing information required to operate user accounts and the service.

The server may also contain application and server logs and database backups. These may contain information such as account-related information, IP addresses, request information, or other technical information generated through the operation of the service.

Google

MaGNaM provides an optional Google Sign-In method that allows users to register for or access their MaGNaM account using their Google account.

When a user chooses to use Google Sign-In, MaGNaM receives information from Google that is necessary to authenticate the user and create or access their MaGNaM account. The specific information received and how it is stored and used is described in the Google Sign-In section of this Privacy Policy.

Email Delivery

MaGNaM uses an email delivery service configured through Django's email functionality to send emails required for the operation of the service, such as account verification and other account-related communications.

When such an email is sent, the email delivery provider may process information necessary to deliver the message, including the recipient's email address and the contents of the email.

The specific email delivery provider used by MaGNaM may change as the service develops. Where this occurs, this Privacy Policy will be updated where necessary.

And Others:

• Legal and regulatory requirements: We may disclose information about you in response to a lawful request, court order, or other governmental request, or where disclosure is otherwise required by applicable law.
• To protect rights, property, and others: We may disclose information about you when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of MaGNaM, third parties, or the public at large, including to investigate abuse, security incidents, or illegal activity.
• Business transfers: In connection with any merger, sale of assets, acquisition, restructuring, or similar transaction, user information may be transferred as part of the transaction, subject to applicable law.
• With your consent: We may share and disclose information with your consent or at your direction.

We do not sell your personal information for money.

Information Shared Publicly

Information that you choose to make public is — you guessed it — disclosed publicly.

That means information like your public profile, published manga, portfolio content, competition submissions that are made public, comments, and other content that you make public through the Services may be available to others and may be indexed or cached by search engines or other services.

Your public profile information may be displayed to other visitors, but information such as your private email address, password, and authentication-related information is not made public through your profile.

Please keep all of this in mind when deciding what you would like to share publicly.

How Long We Keep Information

We generally discard information about you when it's no longer needed for the purposes for which we collect and use it — described in the section above on How and Why We Use Information — and we're not legally required to keep it.

For example, we retain web server and application logs only for the period necessary for security, troubleshooting, and service operation, currently targeted at approximately 30 days unless a different retention period is required for a particular security or operational purpose. We may retain information longer where reasonably necessary to investigate security incidents, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or establish or defend legal claims.

Account information is generally retained while your account remains active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal information within the application as appropriate, subject to information that we are required or reasonably permitted to retain. User-published content is retained while it remains published or otherwise stored in the Services, and deletion/removal may take additional time from backups or cached copies.

Unverified accounts may be automatically deleted after the period configured by MaGNaM's account-verification system.

Security

While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take reasonable measures to do so. We monitor our Services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks.

To enhance the security of your account, we encourage you to be as safe and as secure as one can be with their passwords and accounts.

Choices

You have several choices available when it comes to information about you:

• Limit the information that you provide: If you have an account with us, you can choose not to provide optional profile information. Please keep in mind that if you do not provide information required for a feature, that feature may not be accessible.
• Opt out of optional communications: You may opt out of optional communications from us where an opt-out is available. Even if you opt out, we may still send you other communications, like those about your account, security, and legal notices.
• Close your account: You may request or use the available account tools to close your account. Please keep in mind that we may continue to retain certain information after closing your account, as described in How Long We Keep Information above — for example, when reasonably needed to comply with legal obligations or to establish or defend legal claims.

Your Rights

If you are located in certain parts of the world, including countries that fall under the scope of the European General Data Protection Regulation (aka the "GDPR"), you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, like the right to request access to or deletion of your data.

Transferring Information

Because MaGNaM may use service providers located outside the European Economic Area (EEA), the information about you that we process in the EU may be transferred to, stored in, or accessed from countries outside the EEA where this is necessary to provide the Services.

When providing information about you to entities outside the EEA, we will take appropriate measures to ensure that the recipient protects your personal information adequately in accordance with applicable law. Depending on the recipient and transfer, these measures may include an adequacy decision, European Commission approved standard contractual clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism.

You can ask us for more information about the steps we take to protect your personal information when transferring it from the EU.

Third-Party Software and Services

MaGNaM relies on certain third-party software and services to operate the Services. These providers may process personal information as necessary to provide their services to MaGNaM. Their processing may also be governed by their own privacy policies and terms.

At present, the Services may involve providers such as Google for authentication, Cloudflare for network/security/storage functions, Hetzner for hosting infrastructure, and an email delivery provider for transactional emails. We do not include a provider in this policy merely because its software exists in our source code; providers are described here based on their actual use in the Services.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, MaGNaM may change its Privacy Policy from time to time. MaGNaM encourages visitors to frequently check this page for changes. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the change date above and, where appropriate, by providing additional notice.

Your further use of the Services after a change to this Privacy Policy will be subject to the updated Privacy Policy.
